Tariff Shock in the USA

New US tariffs are putting noticeable pressure on Swiss exporters. In the luxury and industrial sectors in particular, they are driving up prices and adding layers of administrative complexity. For many companies, the message is clear: without smart strategies and a trusted partner, the risk of declining sales is high—especially in the luxury segment, where US demand is already under strain.

Shipments that were already on their final transport leg—such as on a cargo vessel—or stored in a bonded warehouse before August 7, 2025, may still qualify for the previous 10% tariff rate. However, this only applies if they are cleared for free circulation in the US by October 5, 2025. After that date, the higher tariff will apply without exception.

Early indicators suggest that the new rules could also slow down customs processing. Initial reports point to significant delays, even full bottlenecks in the movement of goods. While Sieber cannot eliminate these disruptions, we work tirelessly to minimize the impact on our customers—through timely updates, close coordination with US partners, and forward-thinking planning to ensure your shipments arrive even under challenging conditions.

Experience makes the difference—especially now. Sieber provides tailored advice and manages your overseas shipment from initial planning through to successful delivery.
